Job summary

Assouline in New York seeks a Senior Art Director with deep command of book publishing, typography, and print production to lead the creative development of illustrated titles.

Reporting to the Creative Director, you will oversee 15–20 luxury projects annually, building typographic systems, grids, and layouts that carry the story and the house identity.

You will mentor designers, participate in client meetings, and ensure prints meet the highest standards from concept to final production.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in book publishing and print design.
• Portfolio of printed books, ideally in art, fashion, architecture, or a similarly visual category.
• Advanced mastery of typography, layout systems, and visual hierarchy.
• Deep understanding of offset printing, materials, binding, and production.
• Exceptional aesthetic judgment and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, particularly in client-facing settings.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
• Advanced proficiency in Mac OS and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of illustrated titles from concept through print, building typographic systems, grids, and layouts that carry the story and the house identity.
• Mentor designers and ensure execution of the creative direction across projects.
• Collaborate with editors, publishers, production teams, and clients from first vision to publication, including client meetings, pitches, and presentations.
