Job summary

NewGround seeks a Senior Architectural Specialist to lead preparation of construction documents and coordinate with design teams.

You will manage BIM workflows, liaise with consultants, and drive project delivery while ensuring code compliance and quality. This role includes mentoring junior staff and supporting the BIM strategy across the studio.

Qualifications

  • > Architectural license is required; NCARB preferred; licensure across multiple states preferred.
  • > 10 years of professional experience in commercial architecture; LEED and WELL credentials preferred.
  • > Proficient in BIM tools and building standards; familiarity with Procore, Speclink, and Revit.
  • > Strong knowledge of building codes and accessibility requirements; effective communication and organization.
  • > Ability to coordinate with consultants and manage permit processes; lead design decisions.
  • > Travel as required and mentor junior staff under senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare working drawings and permit documents; ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate with Design Architect on project design decisions.
  • Collaborate with executives, marketing and business development for project delivery.
  • Lead client meetings during appropriate phases; guide design direction.
  • Coordinate with AHJs for permits and approvals.
  • Assist in creating contract changes and handling submittals/RFI responses.
  • Mentor junior staff and support BIM management across the studio.

The Senior Architectural Specialist will lead the preparation of architectural construction documents; coordinating and reviewing the work of outsourced (civil, mechanical, electrical and interior departments, as well as outsource consultants (structural and civil). Demonstrate a strong passion for construction documents and building detailing. Support BIM management across the studio.

General Skills
  • Well versed knowledge of building codes and accessibility codes

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications (MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proficient in Revit
  • Proficiency in Speclink preferred
  • Experience with multi-story buildings

Primary Responsibilities
  • Prepare working drawings
  • Coordinate with the Design Architect on the design of the project.
  • Coordinate with Project Executives, Marketing and Business Development on project delivery
  • Project design lead in client design meetings during appropriate phases
  • Coordinate with local project AHJ’s
  • Submit drawings for permit and manage permit process through approval
  • Prepare clarification of project development documents
  • Assist in preparation of Contract Change Orders
  • Assist checking shop drawings, reviewing submittals and responding to RFI’s
  • Make field trips as necessary to verify information
  • Coordinate with engineering and specification writer
  • Assist in the preparation in specifications
  • Be knowledgeable on application of building regulations to projects
  • Function as detailer to the extent necessary to complete projects on schedule and within budget
  • Perform all other related work, as assigned or as apparent
  • Assist Director of Production in mentoring junior staff
BIM Support
  • Support the implementation of all BIM and related add-on software, parametric content, library files and templates throughout the preconstruction and construction phases of projects
  • Work closely with the architecture, interior design, and external design partners to execute a project strategy and improve workflow to execute all BIM related duties for the project
  • Guide and train in-house personnel to become proficient with all new add-on software along with technical orientation to new hires for the studio
  • Manage and evaluate new tools and software updates for Revit and other related BIM software and interface with the IT department on hardware/software interactions and implementation of new or updated BIM products including, but not limited to, incorporating new version releases, maintaining legacy software, and customizing software for specific firm needs

  • Supports the Director of Design Operations in the coordination of multiple projects simultaneously
Education And/Or Experience Prerequisites
  • Architectural License required
  • NCARB certification preferred
  • Multiple State Architectural Licenses preferred
  • 10 years of professional experience in commercial architecture required
  • LEED AP credential preferred
  • WELL AP credential preferred
