Job summary

ICON is seeking a Senior Architect / Senior Designer to lead design-build of high‑performance buildings using our concrete 3D‑printed wall system, based at the Austin, TX or Miami, FL campuses.

You will direct multi‑disciplinary teams, develop construction documents, coordinate with engineers, and push innovative wall profiles while maintaining design intent, schedule, and sustainability goals.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in complex, multi-disciplinary design projects.
  • Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in Revit, Rhino, Google and Adobe Suites.
  • Experience coordinating all design phases with multiple disciplines.
  • Experience producing construction documents for complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development of ICON’s 3D-printed wall system to maximize comfort, safety and sustainability.
  • Lead project teams in drawing package development across all design stages to meet standards and timelines.
  • Produce drawings to preserve design intent through design and construction.
  • Develop construction documents and wall details focusing on windows, waterproofing, and weatherization.
  • Create construction diagrams to communicate sequencing for building envelope components and MEP systems.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and material science teams to achieve weatherization and high thermal performance.
  • Assist in experimenting with innovative wall profiles for future projects.
  • Review consultant drawings to ensure interfaces between 3D-printed walls and non-printed elements.
  • Coordinate with software engineers, print technicians, and construction ops for field implementation.

Job description

ICON is looking to add a Senior Architect / Senior Designer to the Design Build team. As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team, you will design, evaluate, and deliver world-class high-performance buildings using ICON’s technology set. As an ICONIC, you will be a leader and direct contributor to the development of entirely novel approaches to high-performance buildings and you will have the opportunity to work with your team to advance humankind’s ability to provide dignified, affordable, resilient, and sustainable shelter to the world. This role is can be based at ICON’s Austin, TX campus or ICON's Miami, FL campus and will report to the VP of Building Design.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of ICON’s concrete 3D-printed wall system to maximize human comfort, safety, experience, and sustainability
  • Lead project teams in the development and coordination of comprehensive drawing packages across all design stages, ensuring adherence to ICON’s architectural standards, client requirements, and project timelines
  • Produce drawings and diagrams to ensure that the design intent established during concept development is maintained through subsequent phases of design and construction.
  • Develop construction documents, wall assembly drawings, and building envelope details, with a focus on window and door systems, waterproofing, and weatherization
  • Develop construction diagrams to effectively communicate construction sequencing for successful integration of building envelope components and building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) in the field
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and building & material science departments to determine best practices for achieving effective weatherization, resilient design, and high thermal performance of the printed wall system
  • Assist in the experimentation of innovative wall profiles and configurations for future application in projects
  • Review consultant drawings and details to ensure a successful interface between the 3D-printed walls and any non‑printed element of the building.
  • Coordinate with software engineers, print technicians, and construction operations to ensure successful implementation of wall construction in the field
Minimum Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in complex, multi‑disciplinary design projects
  • Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited institution
  • Proficiency in Revit, Rhino, Google and Adobe Suites.
  • Experience coordinating all phases of design (schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration) with all disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
  • Experience producing and organizing construction documents for complex projects, with an emphasis on integrating building systems
  • Strong experience in Construction Administration, including RFI and submittal review, and other general construction‑related correspondence
  • Working knowledge of the International Residential (IRC) and Building (IBC) codes, ADA guidelines, Fair Housing Act (FHA), principles of concrete design & construction, construction specifications, and test methods and standards associated with the testing of building envelope systems (AAMA/ASTM)
  • Desire to work with a highly collaborative team, on a quickly evolving product, and in a fast‑paced environment
  • Proactive problem‑solving skills, strong organizational skills, and ability to multitask
  • Interest in sustainable design, curiosity for novel architectural technologies, and desire to perfect the craft of construction
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Licensure not required, we support candidates pursuing certification.
  • Familiarity with parametric and computational design tools (e.g., Grasshopper, Dynamo) to explore and optimize complex forms, workflows, or performance outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in research and development environments, particularly contributing to prototype testing, materials research, or novel building systems.
  • Ability to develop and manage BIM standards and digital workflows for interdisciplinary collaboration and construction documentation.
  • Experience collaborating with or managing external consultants, including structural engineers, sustainability experts, and testing labs.
  • Experience leading and delivering projects that integrate emerging construction technologies, such as 3D printing, robotics, prefab, or modular construction.
  • Familiarity with code compliance testing protocols, ICC‑ES reports, or material certification processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and effectively in fast‑paced, iterative design‑build environments.
  • Passion for designing for social impact, including housing innovation, affordability, and climate resilience.
