Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Senior Architect with 15+ years of facility design experience to lead DoD and Navy SIOP projects from either Norfolk, VA or Raleigh, NC. You will drive multi-discipline design teams, manage complex budgets, and ensure compliance with federal standards while coordinating with government clients.

The role requires security-focused, large-scale project leadership and frequent travel to Norfolk for meetings. ARA license and DoD experience are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (or related discipline); required
• Master’s degree in Architecture; preferred
• Registered Architecture (RA) license; required
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in facility design and construction, with at least 5 years in military or federal projects; required
• Familiarity with DoD design standards and MILCON processes; required
• Experience with shipyard (industrial and training facility designs); strongly preferred
• Proficiency in design and project management tools (AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project, Adobe Creative Suites)
• Travel requirements: for Raleigh base, willing to travel to Norfolk ~1 week per month for client meetings and leadership meetings
• US citizenship and background check requirements; compliance with NIST 800-171; E-Verify

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design, and construction of military facilities per DoD standards (UFGS/UFC)
• Collaborate with existing design studios across the company
• Manage cross-functional teams including architects, engineers, subconsultants, and government stakeholders
• Oversee project lifecycle from concept through design, construction, commissioning, turnover
• Ensure compliance with federal regulations and environmental standards
• Coordinate with government clients to define operational requirements and integrate mission-critical systems
• Oversee and review design documents, cost estimates, and monitor financials
• Lead design and industrial building capability for East Coast operations
• Mentor junior staff and develop local architectural team
• Lead current and new client development and proposals in Federal sector
