Job summary

Louisiana State University is hiring an Arborist responsible for the health and appearance of over 5,000 trees on ~470 acres. The role requires expertise in tree care, disease management, and safe operation of arborist equipment, with supervision of crew activities.

Possession of a Louisiana Arborist license and prior experience are required. The position includes a safety-sensitive designation, driver’s license, and background checks.

Qualifications

• Current Louisiana Arborist license issued by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
• Two years of experience in upkeep of trees and shrubs.
• Valid driver’s license; MVR check; drug screens per policy.

Responsibilities

• Directs, works with, and assists a crew in daily tree trimming, pruning, fertilization, aeration, mulching, removal, and replacement.
• Plans Live Oak protection and preservation activities and coordinates with landscape superintendents.
• Oversees equipment use, maintenance, and training for arborist gear (boom truck, chipper, stump grinder, saws, spray rig).
• Identifies diseases and pests; supervises herbicide and pesticide applications per laws.
• Oversees a tree stock nursery area for replacement and propagation.
• Performs other related duties as required.
