Job summary

McMillen, Inc. seeks a Senior Applied Hydraulics Engineer to lead hydraulic engineering for large water resources projects. You will guide teams on dams, energy, fisheries, infrastructure, or natural resources with broad technical leadership.

The role requires PE licensure, extensive hydraulic experience, and ability to travel up to 25%. You will participate in business development and strategic initiatives within a multidisciplinary firm.

Qualifications

  • Required civil or hydraulic engineering degrees with PE licensure.
  • Extensive hydraulic engineering experience for large water resources projects.
  • PM experience and stakeholder engagement skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discussions, meetings, and workshops for project teams and clients
  • Ensure work elements meet quality standards and project requirements
  • Initiate and lead marketing and business development pursuits
  • Identify opportunities with clients to support growth
  • Prepare and oversee project deliverables across components

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Hydraulic Engineering
Master’s degree in Civil or Hydraulic Engineering
20 years of experience in hydraulic engineering
10 years of project management experience
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Experience with FERC regulations
Stakeholder engagement, persuasion and negotiation
Leadership and team-building
Travel up to 25% monthly

Senior Applied Hydraulics Engineer

Responsibilities

Lead discussions, meetings, and workshops for project teams and clients

  • Ensure multiple work elements produced by support staff meet established quality standards and project requirements
  • Initiate and lead marketing and business development pursuits
  • Identify and pursue opportunities with new and existing clients to support business growth
  • Prepare and oversee project deliverables, including reports, letters, technical memoranda, drawings, and specifications across multiple project components
  • Implement and lead technical and management QA/QC reviews for projects in accordance with client requirements and company policies
  • Actively manage project and organizational risks associated with deliverables and work products
  • Participate in the development and execution of strategic initiatives
  • Direct and delegate workloads effectively while holding staff accountable for performance and results
  • Train, evaluate, recruit, and mentor staff with the goal of developing future technical and management leaders within the firm
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Hydraulic Engineering required

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Hydraulic Engineering required
  • 20 years of experience in hydraulic engineering
  • 10 years of project management experience preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Experience with FERC regulations is preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in stakeholder engagement, persuasion and negotiation of critical issues
  • Proven ability to effectively integrate resources and talent to build and lead high-performing project teams
  • Ability to provide meaningful input on key business operations and strategic decisions
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment, lead project tasks, work independently, and remain self-motivated
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% monthly

Compensation Package

Pay Range: $153,000 - $250,000 (DOE)
