Job summary

Axis Automation in Michigan seeks an experienced Applications Engineer Level 4 to lead complex quotation activities and develop customer-focused automation concepts. You will prepare accurate proposals and support awarded solutions through project transition with a high degree of independence.

You will interact with cross-functional teams, identify risks and cost drivers, and communicate technical concepts clearly to customers and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• This position requires a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field or equivalent experience in industrial automation.
• Minimum 5 years in industrial automation, budgeting, quoting, or project management within a relevant industry.
• Strong knowledge of custom automated equipment, manufacturing processes, and proposal generation.
• Experience with CAD/3D modeling tools and related visualization software is preferred.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to customers and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed automation proposals including concepts, budgets, cycle time analysis, labor estimates, materials, risks, and timing.
• Lead complex opportunities with significant technical ambiguity and elevated commercial risk.
• Develop practical automation concepts and manufacturing process strategies for custom equipment.
• Interact with cross-functional teams, gather input, solicit quotes, validate approaches, and support proposal development.
• Support customer meetings and proposal discussions involving technical concepts and commercial content.
• Mentor less experienced engineers through technical guidance without formal leadership duties.
• Build strong customer relationships through responsive communication and clear technical explanations.
