We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Applications Engineer to support the development, validation, and customer adoption of highly integrated power management ICs, including DC-DC converters and other analog/mixed-signal ICs.
The successful candidate will work closely with design, test, marketing and operations throughout the product lifecycle, from product definition through release and customer implementation.
This role requires strong technical expertise in power electronics, evaluation board development, silicon validation, and customer support, along with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Candidate will play a key role in ensuring successful product characterization, documentation, and customer deployment across enterprise, AI, industrial, and computing applications.
Requirements
- BSEE or MSEE in Electrical engineering with 4-8 years’ experience in switching power supplies and/or DC-DC converter operation, especially in buck converters
- Hands-on testing and evaluation of the IC in the lab using power supplies, electronic loads, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage IC designers, marketing teams, and customers through email, phone, and virtual meetings, as well as writing clear technical reports for both internal and customer-facing purposes.
- Familiarity with PCB implementation including stackup selection, current-carrying capability, grounding, thermal management, EMI mitigation, and manufacturability.
- Experience working with external PCB layout contractors and coordinating evaluation board development.
- Review schematic captures, layout databases and manufacturing outputs including Gerber files and designs generated in tools such as Cadence Allegro, Altium Designer, or equivalent, for both customer and internal layouts
- Experience with scripting and automation tools (Python and/or MATLAB) for test automation, characterization, and data analysis.
Description
The successful candidate will
- Participate in multiple phases of product development including product definition, board design and layout, silicon validation, application development, and customer support activities. Work closely with in-house IC design, test, marketing, and operations teams to help ensure successful product development and deployment.
- Drive evaluation board development including capturing schematics, coordination with external PCB layout contractors, review of PCB layouts, fabrication outputs, and manufacturing documentation. Provide guidance on PCB layout, grounding, thermal performance, manufacturability, and EMI.
- Review customer schematics and PCB layouts and provide recommendations to facilitate successful product adoption with first pass success. The role will include participation in customer technical discussions, design reviews, debug activities, and virtual support sessions.
- Perform electrical testing, troubleshooting, and data analysis using standard laboratory equipment and ensure products are properly characterized and validated prior to customer release and production.
- Support and enhance automated validation, characterization, and trimming systems utilizing Python or MATLAB based tools.
- Interface with test engineers and provide input on test hardware and software development, characterization and sample correlation.
- Generate internal and customer-facing technical documentation including application notes, evaluation board documentation, validation reports, user guides, and technical presentations.
- Support customer requirements and Go-To-Market activities through the development of high-quality collateral and timely technical support.
