Responsibilities

• Review Customer specifications, commercial/technical documents, and product requirements.
• Identify and define the preliminary scope of work for a complete solution that fits Customer specifications.
• When applicable, prepare layout and single-line drawings to demonstrate the scope of work.
• Collaborate with Engineers within the BU to generate technical solutions for Siemens products.
• Prepare RFQ packages for third-party products and coordinate with Procurement for quotations.
• Perform quote evaluations and make recommendations for design and vendor choices.
• Develop the cost model for the quotation and secure approvals from senior management.
• Prepare Customer-facing proposals for MV Switchgear and third-party products.
• Engage in Customer discussions with Business Development and Sales teams.
• Coordinate with internal departments and Sales to negotiate and secure contracts.
• Work with PMO for handover from Bid to Project execution.

Senior Application Engineer – Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and Medium Voltage (MV) Secondary Switchgear Proposals

As a Senior Application Engineer – GIS and MV Secondary Switchgear Proposals, you will play a significant role in business generation for the Electrification & Automation (EA) Business Unit. You will be responsible for preparing high-complexity technical and commercial proposals/solutions that best fit our customer needs, while ensuring competitive pricing. You will work closely with Siemens Sales to prepare offers with a focus on Gas Insulated Switchgear and/or MV Metal Enclosed Air Insulated Switchgear (Switches) and/or Pad mounted Switchgear, supporting customers in the datacenter, industrial, utility, and construction markets. This role is crucial in ensuring proposals' technical, contractual, and commercial aspects align with Siemens' portfolio, BU, and management requirements.

• Review Customer specifications, commercial/technical documents, and product requirements.
• Identify and define the preliminary scope of work for a complete solution that fits Customer specifications.
• When applicable, prepare layout and single-line drawings at a minimum, to demonstrate the idea of the intended scope of work.
• Collaborate with Engineers within the Business Unit to generate technical solutions for the Siemens suite of products.
• Prepare RFQ packages for third-party products (transformers, battery systems, HMI cabinets, control boxes, etc.) and work closely with the Procurement team to secure quotations.
• Perform quote evaluations of all received quotations and make technical recommendations for the design and vendor choices.
• Develop the cost model for the quotation using product configurators and secure approvals from senior management.
• Prepare Customer-facing proposals (proposal documents) for Medium Voltage Switchgear and associated third-party products (when applicable).
• Engage in Customer discussions by supporting the Business Development and Sales teams.
• Collaborate with internal departments and Sales teams to negotiate and secure contracts.
• Work closely with the Project Management (PMO) team for an efficient and effective handover of the project from the Bid Phase to the Project execution phase, upon winning the project.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Ability to analyze customer’s technical specifications & single-line diagrams, apply appropriate product offerings to meet customers’ expectations in a cost-effective and timely manner, and offer alternative solutions to optimize profitability while meeting customer needs.
• Basic financial knowledge to understand and participate in ongoing business planning and support the product as well as project lifecycle management processes.
• Excellent collaboration, leadership, and decision-making skills in a team environment, and demonstrated ability to perform and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks while maintaining excellent customer service.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively and accurately communicate with internal and external customers.
• Ability to identify market trends and, using this information, work closely with Marketing and Technology to create and justify projects to close identified gaps.
• Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office tools and willingness to learn product configuration/pricing applications.
• Travel Required – Less than 10%.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL, and NEMA standards for power distribution applications and best practices, specifically for Medium Voltage switchgear and Transformers applications.
• Experience in the design and application of electrical distribution products with a focus on medium voltage metal clad, metal enclosed switchgear products and/or Transformers.
• Knowledge and experience evaluating Single-line drawings, schematics, relay protection & control schemes, communication network diagrams, and related engineering documents.
• Experience with Electrical and 2D Layout drawing tools such as AutoCAD, Visio, etc.
• 3-5 years engineering experience in an EPC, engineering, manufacturing, utility, industrial corporate environment or similar. An advanced degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience.
• Candidate on or willing to relocate to the Raleigh/Wendell, NC area.
