Job summary

Paychex is seeking a Sr. Application Administrator/Software Engineer to join the RocIT Science team in Webster, NY. You will support and modernize a portfolio of enterprise applications, apply automation and AI to reduce manual work, and collaborate with engineers, vendors, and business stakeholders to maintain operational excellence.

This hybrid role emphasizes continuous improvement, documentation, and platform sustainability as you help drive modernization across the application portfolio.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience supporting enterprise applications in production environments.
• Experience using AI-assisted tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to improve workflows.
• Passion for automation and continuous improvement.
• Proficiency with Linux, Python, and shell scripting.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals including firewalls, load balancers, TLS/SSL.
• Experience with authentication technologies (AD, SSO, OAuth).
• Experience with APIs, REST services, or other web services.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure application availability, performance, and reliability; implement automation to reduce manual support.
• Evaluate and apply AI, automation, and development technologies to boost productivity.
• Develop and maintain documentation, runbooks, and support materials; use AI tools to improve quality.
• Provide third-level support for complex issues; create automation and scripts to speed resolutions.
• Collaborate across the team; promote documentation best practices and knowledge sharing.
• Automate repetitive activities; align solutions with support and security processes.
• Serve as primary technical contact for vendor-supported apps; assist with upgrades.
• Manage development, test, and production environments; coordinate upgrades and renewals.
• Participate in modernization, patches, security remediation, and platform improvements.
