Job summary

Sorenson Communications in Salt Lake City is seeking a Senior Software Engineer II to own and evolve our Android Video Relay Service (VRS) apps. You will build high‑quality Kotlin Android applications and integrate native C/C++ libraries via the NDK.

You will work with Product, Design, QA, and native teams to deliver accessible, real‑time video communication for Deaf and hard‑of‑hearing users. The role requires hands‑on leadership, architecture input, and mentoring of less‑senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field preferred or equivalent practical experience.
• 6–8 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Significant experience developing native Android applications in production.
• Experience with multi‑module/shared libraries and CI/CD.
• Experience with real‑time video/audio systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain native Android Video Relay Service (VRS) apps using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• Implement features with MVVM or Clean Architecture patterns.
• Integrate native C/C++ libraries via Android NDK, JNI, and SWIG bindings.
• Develop real‑time video calling features: camera, audio routing, call state, and lifecycle handling.
• Collaborate across Product, Design, QA, and native platform teams for accessible experiences.
