Job summary

Tools for Humanity is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join as one of our first device software engineers at our San Francisco office. You will contribute to the full stack of our next generation proof of human devices.

In this role you will design and maintain embedded Linux and Android components, extend AOSP and HALs, and collaborate with hardware, software and product teams to deliver scalable, high‑volume consumer electronics systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years hands-on software development experience.
• Experience with Android/AOSP platforms.
• Experience shipping high-volume Android devices.
• Strong C/C++/Rust and Linux kernel/user-space familiarity.
• Knowledge of AOSP internals, HAL, and Android bring-up.
• Experience with IPC interfaces (Binder, HIDL, AIDL).
• Experience with cross-compilation toolchains and device trees.
• Startup or high-velocity environment attitude.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain embedded Linux and Android components.
• Develop AOSP HALs and platform services.
• Define interfaces between system components.
• Manage software lifecycle end-to-end.
• Interface firmware/hardware and Android apps teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize performance.
• Support overseas development with JDM/ODM partners.
• Integrate low-level drivers for power efficiency.
• Mentor junior engineers.
