Job summary

The New York Times Company is seeking a Senior Android Developer to join our mobile platform engineering team, building games experiences for the NYT Games App in NYC. Hybrid role with 3+ days in the office.

You will design features, lead projects, and mentor engineers, driving performance, accessibility, and quality across the app. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, Games App, you’ll help shape technical direction.

Qualifications

• 5+ years full time experience as a Software Engineer.
• 3+ years of Android-focused experience.
• Experience building user interfaces with complex animations and user interactions.
• 2+ years of experience with Kotlin, including writing unit tests, networking, data persistence and UI.
• Demonstrated understanding of modern Android technologies such as Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Hilt/Dagger, and Room.
• Experience translating product goals into quality shippable code.
• Knowledgeable and passionate about AI coding tools especially with mobile development.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build scalable, maintainable, and features using Kotlin and modern Android frameworks.
• Tech Lead projects and contribute to app architectural decisions, code review, technical roadmap and delivery estimations.
• Work with product, PMO, design, data, QA, and other engineers to guide product development and translate our requirements into technical specifications.
• Be a technical guide to junior and mid-level developers, encouraging skill growth and adopting developer tools.
• Promote best standards in Android development, and engage with the community of Android developers at the Times.
• You will report to the Engineering Manager, Games App.
