Job summary

GEICO is seeking a Senior Analytics Data Engineer in a hybrid role with on-site days at select locations including Chicago, IL. You will build automated data delivery solutions for operational reporting and dashboards using modern data architecture.

Responsibilities include designing data models, implementing ETL/ELT with dbt and Azure Data Factory, and migrating SAS solutions to Power BI–driven workflows. Requires 5+ years in data analytics within insurance domain.

Qualifications

• Proficiency developing data pipelines using dbt, GitHub and Airflow (or similar technologies).

• Ability to multi-task and learn large amounts of technical information.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• P&C claims data/analytics experience or any P&C insurance industry experience.

• Write, debug, and optimize SQL for data pipelines.
• Support migration of SAS solutions to dbt and Power BI.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design data models and architectures.
• Automate daily maintenance processes for critical data workflows.
• Assist with data and database migrations, testing and validation.
• Contribute to development standards, testing, and code reviews.

Senior Analytics Data Engineer role focused on building and supporting automated data delivery solutions for operational reporting and dashboards.

Responsibilities

• Apply modern data architecture fundamentals including data warehouses, data marts, data lakes, lakehouses, and related data delivery patterns
• Design efficient, scalable data models and data delivery solutions for complex projects, with guidance from architecture and leadership teams as needed
• Evaluate and recommend practical data delivery technologies and approaches that improve maintainability, performance, and usability
• Execute end-to-end development for automated data delivery processes supporting reporting and dashboards using ETL/ELT tools such as dbt and Azure Data Factory (or related technologies)
• Use advanced SQL to write, debug, optimize, and maintain queries and data pipelines
• Support migration of existing SAS solutions to technologies used at GEICO such as dbt and Power BI
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement data models and architectures for client projects and initiatives
• Automate and perform daily maintenance processes for critical data workflows
• Assist with data and database migrations, including testing and validation
• Contribute to team development standards and best practices, including documentation, modularization, testing, and code review expectations
• Support continuous refinement of capabilities and processes
• Assist with project and time management activities such as estimates, status reporting, and stakeholder coordination
• Perform root cause analysis and performance tuning for data pipelines, queries, and reporting datasets
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members as needed

Compensation

• Annual salary range: USD 73,800 - 141,450 per yearly
• Final offer may vary based on scope and responsibilities, work experience, education and training, work location, and market/business considerations
