Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a merchandising intern to analyze member behavior, demand trends, and buying patterns to shape assortment decisions and improve member experiences through data-driven insights. You will collaborate with Supply Chain, Operations, and suppliers, interpret dashboards, and help develop business cases for ROI and cost savings while learning industry and channel trends.

Eligibility requires completing a Walmart/Sams Club internship in Summer 2026, with a business degree or 1 year

Qualifications

  • Must have completed a Summer 2026 Walmart or Sams Club internship.
  • No immigration sponsorship available for this role.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in business or related area.
  • Option 2: 1 year of merchandising or related experience.
  • Knowledge of member buying behaviors and channel-specific trends.
  • Ability to interpret member, merchandise, sales, industry, and financial data.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical methods and data analysis tools.
  • Understanding of profit and loss statements and financial management processes.

Responsibilities

  • Understand member behavior, demand trends, buying behaviors, and member feedback.
  • Interpret member data, share findings, and develop improvement plans with cross-functional partners.
  • Identify opportunities for new items and categories and improve member experiences.
  • Research industry, macroeconomic, competitor, and supplier trends.
  • Evaluate channel strategies and financial implications of item availability.
  • Review merchandise and sales metrics using dashboards and data sources.
  • Analyze data, derive insights, and create or interpret reports.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain, Operations, supplier, and vendor partners to identify inefficiencies.
  • Monitor item quality feedback and identify quality issue trends.
  • Assess impacts of Supply Chain and Operations actions on the profit and loss statement.
  • Develop business cases and recommendations for ROI or cost savings.
  • Conduct hindsight analysis and review in-season reporting and financial results.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and understand impacts of cost, volume, and payment terms.
  • Analyze assortment effectiveness and develop plans to optimize item and assortment performance.
  • Use online channels to test assortment additions and drive incremental sales.
  • Analyze private and national brand roles and recommend item roles within assortments.
  • Review product quality, packaging guidelines, item placement, and planograms.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and support implementation of business solutions.
  • Model compliance with company policies, ethics, integrity, and Walmart values.
  • Collaborate with and develop team members through feedback, coaching, mentoring, and developmental opportunities.

Requirements
  • MUST HAVE COMPLETED A SUMMER 2026 WALMART OR SAMS CLUB INTERNSHIP TO BE ELIGIBLE.

  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in business or related area.
  • Option 2: 1 years’ experience in merchandising or related area.
  • Knowledge of member buying behaviors and channel-specific consumption trends
  • Knowledge of member experience touchpoints and feedback collection techniques
  • Ability to interpret member, merchandise, sales, industry, competitor, and financial data
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical methods and data analysis tools
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain and Operations activities, process flows, compliance, regulatory, and safety guidelines
  • Understanding of profit and loss statements and financial management processes
  • Knowledge of negotiation concepts and techniques
  • Knowledge of organizational assortment strategies, warehouse model principles, market and trend analysis
  • Knowledge of private brand strategies, product guidelines, quality metrics, distribution channels, and packaging guidelines
