Job summary

Latham & Watkins in New York City seeks a Senior Analyst, Intellectual Property & Technology to support the litigation team in IP cases, especially patent litigation. The role combines technical analysis of software, electronics and semiconductor technologies with the ability to explain complex concepts to non‑scientists.

Located in NY/ DC/ SF offices with potential hybrid schedule; requires PhD in EE/CS and 5+ years IP experience, including post‑graduate IP work; patent bar preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ post‑graduate IP‑related experience.
  • Patent bar qualification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with technical experts to analyze hardware and software technologies and patents.
  • Draft and review technical reports and analyses in support of litigation.
  • Distill complex scientific concepts into explanations understandable to non‑scientists.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical witnesses for deposition and trial, and develop exhibits for trial.

About The Role

The Senior Analyst, Intellectual Property & Technology is an integral part of Latham’s Legal Professional and Paralegal team. This role will be responsible for utilizing field‑specific training and expertise to support the litigation team in intellectual property cases, particularly patent litigation, while leveraging subject matter expertise to analyze technical issues related to intellectual property litigation, specifically, software, electronics, and semiconductor technologies. This role will be located in either our Washington, D.C., New York or San Francisco office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in‑office presence.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Consulting and collaborating with technical experts to analyze hardware and software technologies and patents
  • Drafting and reviewing technical reports and analyses in support of litigation
  • Distilling complex scientific concepts and explaining them in terms understandable to non‑scientists
  • Assisting with the preparation of technical witnesses for their deposition and trial testimony and developing exhibits for trial
  • Reviewing and analyzing patents in complex technical fields
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ post‑graduate IP‑related experience (e.g., industry position with some involvement in or responsibility for IP strategy), preferably
  • Patent bar qualification, preferably

Pay Range

USD $180,000.00 - USD $210,000.00 /Yr.
