Astrana Health, Inc. is seeking a Senior Analyst - Actuary to help run the financial engine behind our ACO portfolio. You will build models from scratch, own program economics end-to-end, and work with Finance, Corporate Development, and BD leadership.

Qualifications

  • FSA/ASA credentials or near attainment of ASA credentials.
  • 4+ years of actuarial experience.
  • 1+ years in VBC or related roles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Intermediate knowledge of SQL.
  • Ability to build actuarial models from scratch.

Responsibilities

  • Actuarial modeling: build and own models for forecasting, reserving, and performance analysis.
  • Lead actuarial diligence on ACO targets and quantify savings impact.
  • Own financial tracking and reporting for ACO programs.
  • Develop knowledge across ACO programs (ACO REACH, MSSP, LEAD).
  • Maintain audit documentation in support of a public company with SOX standards.
  • Collaborate across departments to translate actuarial mechanics into decisions.

Senior Analyst - Actuary

Compensation: $100,000 - $135,000 / year

Description

We are seeking an Actuarial Senior Analyst to help run the financial engine behind one of the fastest-moving parts of Astrana's business: our ACO portfolio. Across ACO REACH, MSSP, and the new LEAD model, this role owns the modeling that determines what we project, who we partner with, and what we book. You'll build models from scratch, own program economics end-to-end, and work directly with Finance, Corporate Development, and BD leadership. This role will report to the Senior Manager, Actuary and is open for remote work.

What You'll Do
  • Actuarial Modeling: Build and own actuarial models for forecasting, reserving, shared savings calculations, provider performance analysis, innovative clinical solutions analysis, and ACO performance optimization.
  • M&A and Business Development: Lead actuarial diligence on ACO targets, quantifying benchmark and savings impact to support corporate development strategy. Build the analytics used to target and evaluate new provider groups.
  • P&L Owner: Own the financial tracking and reporting for the company's ACO programs, owning partial responsibility for a major line of business's P&L at a public company.
  • Forefront of VBC: Become an ACO expert with deep working knowledge of all three major national ACO programs (ACO REACH, MSSP, LEAD) at a leading VBC company. Analyze new and proposed CMS rules, develop our strategy around them, and help craft policy positions.
  • Audit and Reporting: Maintain, develop, and create ad hoc ACO audit documentation in support of a public company, adhering to SOX compliance standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner across ACO, Analytics, Data, Finance, M&A, Contracting, Medical Economics, and Operations departments to translate actuarial mechanics into decisions the organization can act on.
  • Ad Hoc Analysis: Support a fast-growing company with diverse actuarial projects and requests as they arise.
Qualifications
  • FSA or ASA credentials or near attainment of ASA credentials.
  • 4+ years of experience in actuarial roles.
  • 1+ years of experience in VBC or VBC adjacent roles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Intermediate knowledge of SQL.
  • Proficiency and desire to build actuarial models from scratch.
  • Comfortable working on a small team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Champion of independent critical thinking, unafraid to challenge the status quo and explore innovative solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of the actuarial continuum (both pricing/forecasting and valuation/reserving).
  • Experience working with ACOs.
  • Experience producing public financial reports.
  • Experience working on the provider side of healthcare.
  • Experience with Databricks and/or Power BI.
Environmental Job Requirements and Working Conditions
  • This position has the option to be remotely based in the U.S. Conversely, candidates can choose to work in a hybrid fashion and work through the Alhambra, CA, Las Vegas, NV, or Houston, TX Astrana Health offices.
  • The hiring manager for this role sits in the Eastern Time Zone, while many of the business partners work on Pacific Time.
  • The national target pay range for this role is $100,000 – $135,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on geographic location (current or future), experience, and other job-related factors.
