Job summary

Air Force Materiel Command in the United States seeks a Subject Matter Specialist (Air Quality) to lead environmental programs under Clean Air Act requirements. You will oversee compliance, coordinate with MAJCOMs and installations, and develop strategic plans to improve environmental performance.

The role requires collaboration with engineers and regulatory bodies, plus managing contracts, budgeting, and reporting. Telework is eligible, with an emphasis on advancing DoD environmental objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional environmental technical expertise and program support to SAF/IE, HAF A7C, and Environmental Restoration and Quality Program Offices.
  • Initiates, develops, sets objectives, and evaluates performances of AFCEC and installation environmental programs for compliance with laws, directives, and agreements.
  • Collaborates with engineers, scientists, regulatory agencies, MAJCOMs, and stakeholders to identify, evaluate, prevent, and resolve environmental problems.
  • Interprets environmental regulatory requirements at federal, state, and local levels and develops regional processes accordingly.
  • Develops near-term and strategic plans, identifies sourcing opportunities, and coordinates environmental planning and funding instruments.
  • Develops, reviews, and manages contracts for environmental projects and services; performs risk analysis on funding and contracting needs.
  • Forecasts funding requirements for the Air Force environmental program and prepares budgeting documents.
  • Validates program evaluations, disseminates regulations, and communicates policy changes to installations and teams.
  • Provides training and guidance on new policy requirements and advises environmental managers on issues.
  • Develops briefing packages, prepares reports, and responds to Congressional inquiries and audits; represents the program in meetings.
