Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Air Quality Project Manager to join our Earth & Environment team in Texas and surrounding states. You will manage air permitting and compliance projects, interface with state agencies, and help clients navigate regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate has a chemical or environmental engineering degree, 10+ years of experience, strong communication skills, and willingness to travel up to 20%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or environmental engineering.
  • 10+ years of air permitting and compliance experience, preferably in Texas.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
  • Experience with air dispersion modeling.
  • Valid State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare proposals for air quality permitting and environmental support projects.
  • Manage projects and tasks related to air quality permitting and compliance services.
  • Interface with State air quality agencies and the EPA on behalf of clients.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, external consultants, and legal teams to support air quality needs.
  • Mentor and develop WSP’s technical staff and support business development efforts.

Senior Air Quality Project Manager

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Air Quality Project Manager to join our Houston, TX; San Antonio, TX; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Austin, TX; El Paso, TX; New Orleans, LA; Shreveport, LA; or Baton Rogue, LA office. Be involved in impactful projects with our Earth & Environment Team and become part of a growing, globally connected organization that partners with clients to solve complex environmental challenges and meet evolving regulatory demands.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing proposals for air quality permitting and environmental support projects.
  • Managing projects and tasks related to complex air quality permitting and compliance services.
  • Assisting clients in determining federal and state air quality regulatory applicability and developing strategies and systems for compliance.
  • Interfacing with State air quality agencies and the EPA on behalf of clients.
  • Collaborating closely with WSP colleagues, external consultants, and legal teams to support clients’ air quality needs.
  • Advocating for WSP clients by keeping them informed of regulatory changes and issues that impact their business.
  • Participating in public meetings and hearings on behalf of clients.
  • Calculating emissions and evaluating air emissions control technologies.
  • Participating in environmental compliance audits.
  • Performing and ensuring QA/QC of technical work products.
  • Mentoring and supporting the professional development of WSP’s technical staff.
  • Supporting business development efforts through client engagement, professional associations, conferences, tradeshows, and webinars.
  • Contributing to internal marketing materials and authoring technical articles for WSP publications.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related science or engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of air permitting and compliance experience, preferably in Texas.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including technical writing, presentations, and direct client interaction.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and developing compliance strategies for State and Federal air quality regulations.
  • Proven problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20%.
  • Valid State driver’s license.
  • Experience with electric generation and/or cement manufacturing air permitting and regulatory programs (Texas preferred).
  • Familiarity with air dispersion modeling.
