Job summary

The Gates Foundation seeks a Senior Program Officer, Software & AI, to lead a portfolio of software, digital health, and AI-enabled products across the Maternal, Newborn, Child Nutrition & Health portfolio. You will translate high-priority health use cases into technically sound, user-centered products deployable in low-resource settings.

The role requires deep experience in software and AI, with the ability to drive roadmaps, manage partnerships, and enable scalable solutions across countries

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, biomedical informatics, engineering, medicine, public health, or another relevant technical or clinical discipline.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a portfolio of grants, contracts, and other investments focused on software, digital health, and AI-enabled products.
• Translate priorities into software and AI product roadmaps and identify high-value use cases and dependencies.
• Provide technical leadership across the software product lifecycle, from requirements to deployment and iteration.
• Guide development and productization of AI-enabled tools including clinical decision support and risk stratification.
• Define data structures and interoperability standards for imaging and physiologic data within validated outputs.
• Assess architecture, APIs, data flows, deployment, offline operation, and integration with health information systems.
• Collaborate with grantees, developers, researchers, and governments to scale solutions in diverse settings.
• Apply responsible AI, data governance, privacy, and safety practices with clear criteria for scale or pause decisions.
• Stay current with AI ecosystems and translate developments into practical portfolio implications.
