Job summary

WEX is seeking a Sr. Staff AI Platform Engineer to design and build a high-performance foundation powering enterprise AI workflows.

You will own the Context Layer, enabling low-latency data access for vector databases and LLM-driven applications, and lead cross-functional architecture reviews across the org. The role emphasizes platform-as-a-product development, extensible infrastructure, and advanced AI tooling including HITL triggers and context retrieval optimizations.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in software engineering with distributed systems focus and proficiency in Java/Scala and Python.
• Deep experience building extensible frameworks, high-throughput APIs, and libraries used by other developers.
• Hands-on experience with agent development trends such as Multi-Agent Orchestration and transition to Agentic RAG.
• Knowledge of Model Context Protocol (MCP) and interoperability standards for AI agents.
• Experience building AI-native CI/CD features and automated root-cause analysis for complex systems.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the 3–5 year technical roadmap for a high-scale, AI-ready Data Lakehouse optimized for agent operations and low-latency context retrieval.
• Prototype and benchmark emerging AI trends; evaluate architectures like Multi-Agent Orchestration and autonomous memory management.
• Lead cross-functional architecture reviews and serve as the escalation point for the most complex bottlenecks.
