Job summary

Peak Performers, a Texas State Agency partner, seeks a hybrid Senior AI/ML Data Engineer in Austin to build a modular agentic AI platform within Snowflake that semi-automates the data analytics lifecycle for the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP).

You will deliver an end-to-end data platform, including agents for ingestion, data quality, and orchestration, and generate executable code and DBT models with testing and validation before deployment.

• 7+ years of software or data engineering experience.
• 2+ years building LLM-powered applications in production.
• 7+ years implementing tool-calling agents and orchestration loops.
• 7+ years production ELT/ETL development with Snowflake and DBT.

Responsibilities

Peak Performers has partnered with a Texas State Agency to assist in their search for a hybrid Senior AI/ML Data Engineer in Austin, Tx In this position, you will be responsible for delivering a modular agentic AI platform built within Snowflake that semi-automates the data analytics lifecycle for the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP).

Major duties

• Build Reusable Foundational Agents: Develop the core data ingestion and processing agents (responsible for source extraction, transformation, and load orchestration) designed to be built once and reused across all enterprise application workstreams.
• Engineer Data Quality (DQ) Agents: Create intelligent agents for continuous monitoring of data completeness, accuracy, and consistency. Implement anomaly flagging, DQ reporting, and automated remediation triggers.
• Develop the Ingestion Supervisory Agent: Build the "OneClick Ingestion" supervisor capable of generating executable ingestion code, deploying pipeline components, and managing source connectors dynamically.
• Deliver Engineering Acceleration (DBT): Programmatically generate Snowflake DBT packages and build the workflow interfaces that allow engineers to review, modify, and approve the generated code.
• Implement Conversational Analytics: Contribute to the "Accelerating Data Solutions" workstream by developing natural-language Q&A interfaces, automated report generation, and dynamic semantic model creation powered by Snowflake Intelligence.
• Rigorous Testing & Safety Guardrails: Implement automated testing, comprehensive agent evaluation frameworks, safety guardrails, and seamless integration with human-in-the-loop approval gates.
• Catalog & Governance Integration: Register every developed agent in the centralized platform catalog, maintaining meticulous documentation on capabilities, versions, inputs, and outputs.
• Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: Document agent architecture designs and actively collaborate with data engineers to ensure a smooth handoff and long-term sustainability.

What are we looking for?

• 7 years of software or data engineering experience, including 2+ years hands-on building LLM-powered applications and at least one agent system in production.
• 7 years of experience implementing tool-calling agents in production, including tool/function schema design, structured outputs, orchestration loops, retries, timeouts, and failure handling.
• 7 years of experience building at least one production agent that generates executable code or artifacts such as SQL, Python, or DBT models, with validation and testing before execution.
• 7 years of experience writing and maintaining agent evaluation suites.
• 7 years of experience implementing guardrails and human-in-the-loop approval gates.
• 7 years of production ELT/ETL development with Snowflake and DBT.
• 7 years of experience building automated data quality checks in production, including completeness, accuracy, consistency monitoring, anomaly detection, and alerting or remediation.
• 7 years of strong Python and SQL experience.
• 7 years of implementer-level experience with MCP or OpenAI-compatible function calling.
• 7 years of expert-level Snowflake engineering experience, including Snowpark, Cortex / Snowflake Intelligence, streams and tasks, security configuration, and ODS-to-business-layer modeling.
• 7 years of experience building or deploying MCP servers/clients or OpenAI-compatible tool interfaces in production.
• 7 years of strong Python and SQL, DBT at scale, CI/CD for data platforms, and SSO/RBAC design.
