Job summary

Astreya seeks a Senior Engineer to drive digital transformation across core energy and utility platforms. You will modernize legacy infrastructure, implement AI models, LLMs, and autonomous agents, and build scalable back-end architectures and data pipelines for real-time intelligent decisions.

You will also deploy high-performance microservices, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL endpoints, while occasional React.js front-end work supports internal integrations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in CS/SE/AI.
• 8+ years in backend, data, or full-stack software development.
• Hands-on LLM development, fine-tuning, and agent frameworks.
• Strong Python (FastAPI/Flask) plus Node.js experience.

Responsibilities

• AI, LLM & Agent Implementation: Architect and deploy LLM apps, RAG pipelines, and multi-agent systems for grid monitoring and automated workflows.
• Backend & API Architecture: Build high-performance microservices, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL with Python for data-heavy pipelines.
• System & Infrastructure Modernization: Migrate legacy systems to cloud-native, scalable architectures using AWS/Azure serverless, ECS/Docker, and vector databases.
• Data & Spatial Management: Design SQL, NoSQL, Graph, and Vector databases for power grid modeling and time-series data.
• Frontend Support: Maintain basic React.js components to expose AI outputs and dashboards.

Job description

We are seeking a Senior Engineer to drive digital transformation and intelligent automation across our core energy and utility platforms. In this role, you will modernize legacy utility infrastructure by implementing AI models, Large Language Models (LLMs), and autonomous AI agents alongside high-performance back-end architectures to process massive time-series datasets, automate grid workflows, and power predictive analytics engines.

While light front-end maintenance (React.js) may occasionally be needed for internal integration, your primary focus will be designing scalable back-end architectures, data pipelines, and intelligent agentic frameworks to process smart meter telemetry, model grid topographies, and enable real-time automated decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

• AI, LLM & Agent Implementation: Architect and deploy LLM applications, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, and multi-agent systems to automate grid monitoring, summarize complex telemetry logs, and execute automated workflows across enterprise utility platforms.
• Backend & API Architecture: Build and implement high-performance microservices, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL endpoints using Python (FastAPI/Flask) for data-heavy pipelines and AI workloads.
• System & Infrastructure Modernization: Migrate legacy systems into cloud-native, scalable architectures using AWS/Azure serverless execution (Lambda), containerized deployments (ECS/Docker), and specialized vector/graph database engines.
• Data & Spatial Management: Design and maintain SQL, NoSQL (Couchbase), Graph, and Vector databases to model complex power grid topographies, asset distributions, time-series sensor data, and high-dimensional semantic embeddings.
• Frontend Support: Maintain basic, functional user interface components using React.js to expose AI model outputs, grid metrics, and operational dashboards as required.
• Engineering Standards & Collaboration: Write clean, maintainable code, lead code reviews, mentor junior team members, and work in an Agile environment to deliver secure enterprise utility applications.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience: 8+ years of professional backend, data, or full-stack software development experience.
• AI & LLM Expertise: Hands-on experience developing, fine-tuning, and deploying LLM applications, prompt engineering workflows, and agentic frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, AutoGen, CrewAI, or tool-calling architectures).
• Backend Mastery: Core proficiency in Python (FastAPI/Flask) for data-intensive APIs, AI pipelines, and analytical engines, with strong experience in Node.js / Express.js.
• Databases & Vector Stores: Deep proficiency with SQL, NoSQL (e.g., Couchbase), Graph databases, and Vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant, Chroma, or Pgvector).
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with AWS or Azure services, specifically Lambda serverless execution, container orchestration (ECS/Docker), and cloud AI/ML hosting platforms.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Domain Knowledge: Prior experience with utility platforms, AMI smart meter data, spatial asset management (GIS/Mapbox/Leaflet), or time-series databases (TimescaleDB, InfluxDB).
• Agentic Architecture: Proven experience building autonomous agents capable of tool usage, multi-step planning, or enterprise API orchestration.
• Testing & Quality: Experience with modern back-end testing frameworks (PyTest, Jest) and evaluation tools for LLMs/RAG pipelines.
• Modern Tooling: Proficiency in TypeScript, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.

Strong problem-solving capabilities, excellent technical communication, and a track record of delivering enterprise-grade software.
