Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years with a master’s; or a PhD with relevant experience.
• Experience applying AI/ML or deep learning to real technical problems.
• Experience developing custom AI/ML solutions for domain-specific challenges.
• Demonstrated experience in embedded systems security and low-level system analysis.
• Strong background in computer architecture/microarchitecture, OS security, hardware security, reverse engineering, side-channel analysis.
• Proficiency in Python and C/C++, including low-level/embedded software development.
• Experience with Linux, RTOS, kernel/driver concepts.
• Eligibility to obtain Secret clearance; U.S. Citizen for clearance consideration.
• Minimum 3 days per week on-site.

In this position, you will assess and apply AI/ML approaches to real technical challenges, help integrate models into existing workflows, and deliver prototypes and recommendations for sponsors and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and apply AI/ML solutions to mission-critical embedded security challenges.
• Lead the integration of AI/ML into existing tooling to expand operational capabilities.
• Shape research efforts that connect academic advances and frontier capabilities to practical, deployed solutions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams working on embedded security research, vulnerability assessment, and hardware/software co-design.
• Produce prototypes, technical recommendations, and engineering support for sponsors.
• Contribute to embedded security requirements, acquisition guidance, and security best practices for implementation.
• Communicate and document technical approaches, risks, and results for sponsors and stakeholders.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers.

Required Qualifications

• Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years with a master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can contribute immediately; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
• Experience applying AI/ML or deep learning to real technical problems.
• Experience developing custom AI/ML solutions for domain-specific challenges.
• Demonstrated experience in embedded systems security and low-level system analysis.
• Strong background in one or more: computer architecture/microarchitecture, operating systems security, hardware security, reverse engineering, side-channel analysis/fault injection.
• Proficiency in Python and C/C++, including experience with low-level or embedded software development.
• Experience with Linux, RTOS, kernel/driver concepts, or embedded operating environments.
• Ability to lead technical work, communicate with sponsors, and shape research direction.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government issued Security Clearance, including the requirement to be a U.S. Citizen for clearance consideration.
• Minimum 3 days per week on-site.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in AI, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Active security clearance, especially Top Secret or TS/SCI.
• Technical depth from transistor/silicon-informed concerns through OS, firmware, and application layers.
• Strong problem-framing in ambiguous research environments.
• Ability to connect AI/ML with practical embedded security outcomes.
• Strong collaboration and mentoring mindset.
• Comfort leading both hands-on engineering and strategic technical direction.

Location and Compensation

• Location: Bedford, MA (onsite)
• Salary Range: USD 143,600 to 215,400 per year
• Compensation Midpoint: USD 179,500 (as part of the provided range: 143,600 - 179,500 - 215,400)
• Security Investigation: Selected applicants will be subject to a US government security investigation.
• Clearance Requirement: Must have or obtain a Secret clearance within one year from the date of hire.
