Job description

TRM Labs is hiring a Senior AI Engineer (AI Automation) to embed with Product and build agentic solutions, automations, and apps that help Product, Product Marketing, and Design move faster. The role focuses on end-to-end ownership, shipping production code, and applying AI to internal tooling and customer insight.

Responsibilities
  • Convert repetitive, manual work into agents and automations so teams can dedicate time to judgment and customer work rather than busywork.
  • Provide teams with direct access to customer insight and the underlying data through tools you build, enabling better-informed decisions.
  • Deliver agentic solutions that teams adopt, allowing the same headcount to operate at a scale that would otherwise be difficult.
  • Create reusable, maintained components to speed up future builds and prevent duplication of existing work.
  • Translate rough ideas into working prototypes quickly and ship same-day production fixes to shared agents, improving speed to market across Product and Marketing.
Requirements
  • Strong software engineering experience in Python or TypeScript, with a track record of shipping production code rather than only wiring together workflows.
  • Very high AI fluency, including daily development with AI and building agentic solutions on current frontier models. Examples include MCP, retrieval, evals, and observability. Relevant work examples are expected.
  • Experience translating requirements from non-engineers and uncovering the real need behind the request.
  • Judgment about where AI improves outcomes and where it does not.
  • Experience building solutions that non-technical teams adopt and continue using.
  • Daily use of AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
  • Senior scope to own problems end to end with minimal direction and comfort working in ambiguity.
Technologies
  • Python, TypeScript
  • MCP, retrieval, evals, observability
  • Claude Code, Cursor
  • Slack
About the Team

AI Automation Engineering is the engineering home for internal tooling and agents, embedded with Product, Product Marketing, and Design. You remain connected to engineering for standards, code review, and shared infrastructure so what you build holds up in production and compounds across teams.

  • High-ownership work with ambiguity by design, with the ability to set priorities and own problems end to end.
  • Globally distributed, fully remote, and async-first environment.
Team Operating Rhythm
  • Roughly 6 hours of overlap with 8:00am to 5:00pm PST.
  • Embedded side by side with the teams you serve, with a connection back to the AI Automation team and engineering.
  • Async-first communication through Slack and written documentation.
  • No travel, no onsite, and no on-call.
Required Online and Collaboration Hours

Schedule: roughly a 6 hour overlap with 8:00am to 5:00pm CT.

Learn About TRM Speed in This Position
  • Move from a rough idea to a working prototype in hours so teams respond to reality rather than descriptions.
  • Ship improvements to a shared agent or app to production the same day a user reports a problem.
  • Within the first 90 days, teams rely on what you built as part of their weekly work.

Most interview processes include a case study, an AI skills assessment, and a Leadership Principles interview.
