Job summary

Retool, Inc. is seeking an AI Engineer to own the agent platform behind Retool's AI products. You’ll shape model-driven behavior across production environments, spanning cloud and self-hosted contexts. Expect work on prompting, evaluation, and ensuring safety while shipping at scale.

You’ll collaborate with product, infra, and PM teams to deliver reliable AI features and maintain governance as you push for robust, user-focused capabilities across the platform.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional engineering experience with ownership over complex systems in production.
• Production experience with agentic systems, including context engineering, tool use, and evaluation frameworks at real user scale.
• Hands-on experience with sandboxing technology and running agents inside sandboxed environments.
• Experience in Kubernetes or equivalent in practice (EKS, ECS, or similar), owning services end to end.
• Strong systems thinking and habit of using AI as an augmentation to engineering judgment.

Responsibilities

• Own the behavior of agentic features across multiple product surfaces with attention to quality, safety, and failure modes.
• Collaborate across product and infrastructure to optimize runtime costs and scale agent workloads.
• Design and evolve prompting, context construction, retrieval, routing, and tool-use strategies for long-horizon workflows.
• Build evaluation systems using statistical signals and trends to measure performance and drift.
• Mentor engineers and guide when to rely on models versus human judgment.
