Job description

Join Vanguard's Global Investment & Finance Systems organization and personally shape how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are governed, adopted, and scaled across Investments, Finance, and Technology. As a Senior AI & Emerging Technology Strategist, you will partner directly with senior leaders to evaluate Artificial Intelligence (AI) opportunities, shape enterprise AI strategy, and develop the operating models and governance mechanisms that guide responsible adoption of AI and machine learning. You will help define how AI, and other emerging technologies with advanced Machine Learning (ML) methods, quantum computing, and other fintech opportunities are evaluated, governed, communicated, and adopted. Success in this role requires exceptional communication skills, executive presence, intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to continuously learn emerging AI and ML concepts. This individual must be comfortable operating in ambiguity, building relationships across a broad stakeholder landscape, and helping transform strategic vision into actionable outcomes. This role is ideal for a technically minded strategist who can translate complex AI concepts into practical business outcomes, engage executive stakeholders, and help shape and drive Vanguard's future approach to AI innovation and governance.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with senior leaders across Investments, Finance, Technology, Risk, and Enterprise Functions to define and advance AI & emerging technology strategy, governance, and adoption initiatives.
  • Personally design and evolve governance mechanisms that support responsible, scalable, and effective use of AI and machine learning capabilities.
  • Evaluate AI and other emerging technologies and industry trends to help inform future-state operating models, governance policies, and strategic priorities.
  • Develop recommendations regarding AI usage, governance controls, technology enablement, and organizational readiness.
  • Partner with business and technology teams to translate AI strategy into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and support discussions regarding AI adoption, governance, education, and implementation priorities.
  • Create executive-level communications, presentations, recommendations, and strategic updates related to AI initiatives and emerging technologies.
  • Help define guidance, roles, responsibilities, and operating practices that support successful AI adoption across the organization.
  • Partner with risk, compliance, legal, and technology teams to support AI initiatives within established governance and control frameworks.
  • Contribute to AI enablement, education, and organizational readiness efforts by helping shape training and communication strategies.
  • Serve as a thought partner in assessing how AI capabilities may impact future workforce models, operating structures, and business processes.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced team members as the AI governance and strategy function evolves.
Education & Experience
  • Minimum of eight years of related AI/ML experience including one or more of the following: technology, digital transformation, governance, strategy, consulting, or program leadership roles.
  • Undergraduate degree in related field (Computer Science, Engineering) required. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Experience within Investment Management, Asset Management, Wealth Management, Financial Services, or FinTech environments.
  • Experience leading enterprise AI, technology, governance, or digital transformation initiatives across multiple stakeholders and business functions.
  • Experience developing business cases, strategic roadmaps, success metrics, and value-realization frameworks for emerging technologies.
  • Experience influencing senior leaders and building consensus across executive, technical, and business stakeholders.
  • Experience driving cross-functional initiatives involving technology, risk, compliance, legal, and business teams.
  • Working knowledge of AI, machine learning, generative AI, AI governance, and responsible AI principles, including experience supporting enterprise adoption and enablement efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing enterprise AI governance frameworks, operating models, policies, or technology adoption strategies.
  • Experience designing and delivering enterprise education, enablement, workforce upskilling, or change-management programs.
  • Experience creating executive-level communications, presentations, recommendations, and strategic updates.
  • Technical background in software development, data science, machine learning, analytics, or emerging technologies.
