Job summary

American Express is seeking an experienced security-focused software engineer to join its Enterprise Technology Services. This role emphasizes building AI-assisted security tooling, cryptography, and vulnerability remediation across cloud deployments.

You will mentor engineers, drive secure development practices, and collaborate with architecture, cloud, and cybersecurity teams to deliver scalable data security capabilities across diverse environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, CE, or equivalent.
• 6+ years in software engineering for high-performance, scalable solutions using Java and modern frameworks.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software development, code analysis, testing, and security workflows.
• Experience building libraries, SDKs, and REST APIs with focus on automation, security, and scalability.
• Hands-on cryptography and Key Management experience, PKCS#11, HSMs, and secure integrations.
• Strong vulnerability management and secure SDLC experience, with cloud security expertise.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, and security tooling to speed remediation.
• Experience with cloud platforms and securing apps/services/workloads in modern clouds.

Responsibilities

• Drive AI-enabled security engineering and automation with cross-functional teams to embed data security across the SDLC.
• Design and enhance cryptographic libraries, APIs, and enterprise key management solutions with AI-assisted development.
• Lead vulnerability management and remediation for cloud-deployed apps, promoting consistent practices enterprise-wide.
• Leverage AI to accelerate vulnerability analysis, code fixes, and remediation prioritization.
• Perform security-focused code reviews to identify weaknesses and ensure secure coding standards.
• Develop reusable security tooling and guardrails to reduce manual security work.
• Provide hands-on security consultation to internal teams to integrate data protection into apps.
• Collaborate across engineering, architecture, cloud, and cybersecurity to deliver scalable security capabilities.
• Maintain high-quality technical documentation and ensure alignment with evolving security requirements.
• Identify opportunities to apply AI to cybersecurity workflows and improve security outcomes.
• Mentor engineers and lead technically across cybersecurity and secure software development.
