Job summary

Esri is seeking a Sr. Data Scientist to advance predictive AI capabilities for ArcGIS products.

You will lead ML research, develop transformer-based models and fine-tuned foundation models using telemetry data, and collaborate with software engineers, product teams, and MLOps to productionize AI capabilities. Responsibilities include experimentation, evaluation, and deployment of models, crafting adapter contracts, and mentoring peers while staying current with state-of-the-art transformer

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development, ML engineering, or data science experience.
• Strong applied ML background with transformer architectures.
• Hands-on experience training custom transformer-based models from scratch.
• Fine-tuning LM with LoRA/QLoRA.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, validate, and deploy AI models from telemetry datasets including transformer architectures and foundation models.
• Develop and fine-tune LoRA and QLoRA adapters for language models and sequence prediction systems.
• Collaborate with DevOps and telemetry platform teams for data ingestion and training infrastructure.
• Create evaluation frameworks measuring model quality, throughput, latency, memory efficiency, and cost.
• Compare custom models with foundation-model adapters and recommend deployment strategies.
• Build automated testing and regression frameworks for base models and adapters.
• Document adapter contracts, configurations, tokenizer expectations, inputs/outputs, and deployment assumptions.
• Work with cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready AI solutions with clear performance targets.
• Define datasets for training, validation, and benchmarking.
