Shield AI, located in San Francisco, is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the AI data platform efforts from training to deployment in diverse environments. This pivotal role involves scaling architecture across various autonomy programs and ensuring efficiency and reliability in operations.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in ML infrastructure, working in both on-premise and cloud settings, and will drive significant efficiencies in model development and deployment across projects.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating ML infrastructure at scale (100+ GPU clusters).
• Experience defining compute strategy, including on‑premise vs cloud tradeoffs.
• Strong understanding of ML workloads, including foundation models and simulation-based training.

Responsibilities

• Define and operate the core AI and data platform.
• Own where and how workloads run across environments.
• Build infrastructure for distributed training and simulation.
