Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking a position located off campus at the SPAREC in Blackstone, VA. The candidate will generate, collect, analyze, and transfer research data, managing field, greenhouse, and laboratory activities and Center operations.

Acting with project leaders and the farm manager, the incumbent will initiate experiments, establish protocols, and integrate projects into the Center's total research program. Occasional travel within the state and extended hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Requires knowledge of agricultural research techniques and procedures; experience operating agricultural/research equipment; production agriculture knowledge for sound research judgment.
• Experience in managing and training subordinates and peers; knowledge of agricultural disease and pest identification.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate with diverse clientele.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions; willingness to travel within the state for offsite tasks.

Responsibilities

• Generate, collect, analyze, and transfer research data; manage field, greenhouse, and laboratory activities and Center operations.
• Interact with project leaders and the farm manager to initiate experiments, establish protocols, and integrate projects into the Center's research program.
• Occasionally work beyond normal hours and travel within the state as needed.
