Job summary

MITRE is seeking a Senior Agentic Software Engineer to design, build, secure, and operate mission-focused software systems and data platforms using state-of-the-art agentic and AI-enabled development techniques.

You’ll apply modern tools to develop prototypes, advise sponsors, and help establish guardrails for responsible AI adoption while delivering features and scalable architectures in a high-security, on-site environment in Massachusetts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; 5+ years of related experience.
• Strong Python and secure coding fundamentals.
• Experience with agentic/AI-assisted development tools.
• Ability to design guardrails for AI-enabled engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and deploy mission software and data platforms with agentic/AI-assisted workflows.
• Stand up and operate agentic development toolchains integrated into standard engineering practices.
• Prototype mission capabilities and mature them into production-grade systems.
• Define and enforce guardrails for agentic engineering (tools/models, data handling, provenance).
• Establish quality gates for AI-generated artifacts (tests, security analyses).
• Architect, build, and operate distributed cloud systems (AWS/multi-cloud).
• Design and integrate APIs, backend services, data flows, pipelines, and orchestration.
• Automate DevSecOps and CI/CD with AI-aware controls and repeatable releases.
• Produce and maintain documentation and runbooks for AI-assisted engineering.
