Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Controls Engineer in Macomb, MI to design, program, test and commission aerospace automation systems across the full project lifecycle. You’ll collaborate with engineering, manufacturing and project teams to deliver precise, high-quality automation solutions under tight timelines.

The role requires strong PLC/HMI skills, CNC and servo drive experience, and about 30% travel for on-site commissioning.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in controls engineering or related automation role.
• Proficient in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI development.
• Experience with CNC programming and servo drive configuration.
• Experience supporting on-site installation and customer buy-off.
• Willing to travel approximately 30% domestically for commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test control systems software, including PLC logic and HMI interfaces.
• Program PLCs from scratch on Allen-Bradley and Siemens.
• Configure and commission servo drives and CNC systems.
• Support installation and commissioning at customer facilities; troubleshoot and validate performance.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to refine specifications.
• Participate in full lifecycle activities from concept to customer buy-off.
• Ensure proper integration of electrical power with control hardware per standards.
• Adapt to tight timelines while maintaining precision and quality during commissioning.
• Provide on-site startup support and resolve control system issues.
• Contribute to continuous improvement for performance and reliability.
• Document work and communicate with stakeholders.
