GE Appliances, a Haier company, seeks a Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineer in Louisville, KY. You will manage capital equipment projects, support NPI and cost-out initiatives, and drive plant improvements, serving as a liaison between programs and plant operations.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience managing capital equipment procurement projects, including specification development, equipment supplier selection, technical reviews, installation and qualification of equipment.
  • Prior experience with packing equipment and robotic automation is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Good communication skills and ability to report on program status.
  • Experience implementing assembly equipment and conveyance for high volume operations.
  • Automation integration and Lean process improvement experience.
  • Prior NPI program experience and GD&T knowledge.

The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME) will be responsible for managing and executing capital equipment and manufacturing process projects supporting new product introductions (NPI), cost out initiatives and plant improvements. The AME will also be a key liaison between the program and the plant operations teams; ensuring that plant priorities and objectives are clearly understood and considered for the area under their ownership.

How You'll Create Possibilities
  • Manage capital equipment procurement projects: Including specification development utilizing GE standards, supplier selection, early supplier engagement, technical reviews, factory layout development, installation and qualification of equipment. Ensure all tooling and equipment is reliable and robust and designed to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Own the program metrics as applicable to your assigned projects: manufacturing labor plan (VLOH), equipment and tooling budgets and quality of in-house manufactured parts/product. Work with the program team to perform trade-off analysis on competing metrics if necessary and drive decisions based on overall business impact.
  • Develop manufacturing processes. Utilize cross-functional participation to ensure that the equipment and processes are compatible with the entire value stream. Efforts should include Part and Process cross functional activities, early equipment management (TPM), workstation design, material presentation, standard work and single piece flow.
  • Work with cross-functional team to develop Manufacturing Control Plans (MCP) and Manufacturing Control Instructions (MCI).
  • Work with EHS and the Advanced Industrial Engineer equipment / tooling / processes are implemented with the health and safety of the operators in mind.
  • Work with factory operations and Lean teams to understand Value Stream and how your projects impact this. Ensure material flow, workstation setup, model mix, etc. are considered when workstations / equipment is designed.
  • Work with the design team to ensure Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) is considered part design.
What You'll Bring to Our Team

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years hands on experience in manufacturing equipment and processes
  • 3+ years’ experience managing capital equipment procurement projects, including specification development, equipment supplier selection, technical reviews, installation and qualification of equipment
  • Prior experience with packing equipment and robotic automation is strongly preferred
  • Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization (both salaried and shop floor operators / skilled trades team members)
  • Good communication skills – will be expected to provide program report outs to cross-functional team
  • Ability to make decisions and willingness to take ownership of complex projects
  • Experience implementing assembly equipment and conveyance for high volume operations.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is primarily based in Louisville, KY, but requires travel to other locations as needed. The primary work schedule is the 1st shift; however, occasional support during weekends, 2nd, and 3rd shifts may be necessary. Travel is required approximately 25% of the time to assist remote sites.
  • Working conditions are normal for a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Work may involve lifting materials and products up to 30 pounds and working in and around heavy equipment.
  • Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hard hats.
  • These roles require frequent walking in a manufacturing plant environment.
