Job summary

The Senior Advanced Design & Simulation Engineer will provide complex engineering support to application engineering and operations functions. Responsibilities include product design, design verification via computational analysis, material model generation and testing, statistical data analysis, training seminars, and customer support as a design subject‑matter expert.

Additional duties involve responding to customer inquiries, providing design expertise for new product development, tooling design and optimization, process improvement, and material development through testing and data analytics. The role also delivers technical assistance to Sales teams and mentors junior engineering staff.

Key technical capabilities: programming in Python (or equivalent), advanced material modeling, parametric analysis, and advanced design analysis such as damage propagation. The engineer adapts analytical tools to new and complex challenges.

Leadership responsibilities include training initiatives, coaching, and influencing the technical approach to modeling, testing, analysis, and the application of results throughout the organization.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Design and recommend products that solve customer problems and meet equipment design requirements. Document all projects per business, engineering, and company procedures to maintain ISO9001 compliance.
  • Participate in Strategic Account Teams, attend meetings, collaborate with customers, and provide onsite support to expand lateral and vertical contacts.
  • Contribute to new product sales by identifying opportunities aligned with GT’s core capabilities.
  • Maintain reputation as a technical expert in advanced design, computational analysis, process optimization, and material testing.
  • Manage projects independently and communicate effectively among GT project teams, engineering, sales, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Coach junior engineers on design, analysis, and materials.
  • Review projects for accuracy and completeness, provide comments, and approve as appropriate.
  • Provide advanced engineering support and computational analysis to manufacturing, ensuring high‑quality, specification‑compliant products and efficient processes.
  • Deliver advanced engineering services at customer locations and industry conferences to showcase GT’s technical competency and support new business opportunities.
  • Develop advanced computational models and analytical tools across the organization through programming and modification of analytical capabilities.
  • Train and develop junior staff on advanced engineering and design topics, leveraging subject‑matter expertise throughout the organization.
Required Minimum Qualifications

Education/Certifications: B.S. in an engineering discipline (advanced degree preferred).

  • 10+ years of engineering experience; 5–10 years in an engineering role required.
  • Experience with computer‑driven computational design for stress, thermal, and vibration analysis.
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D drafting and modeling software (ABAQUS, ANSYS, or SolidWorks).
  • Programming in Python or equivalent language.
  • Experience with material modeling software such as DigiMat.
  • Experience in material testing and data analysis preferred.
  • Customer‑facing experience desired.
  • Ability to work in a cross‑functional team environment.
  • Effective technical communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel 10–20% for customer meetings.
