Savant Wealth Management is seeking a Senior Accounting Specialist on the Accounting & Business Advisory (SABA) team in St. Charles, IL. You will manage essential monthly accounting and payroll services, mentor teammates, and strengthen team practices across a growing integrated financial services firm.

The role emphasizes accuracy, client service, and leadership, with flexibility for tax season hours and cross-team collaboration within Savant’s advisory, tax, and planning groups.

Qualifications

Five+ years of accounting experience with write-up and bookkeeping services.
Proven understanding of accounting principles and practices.

Responsibilities

Monthly accounting: bank reconciliations, journal entries, financial statements, tax returns, client bill payments, and bookkeeping.
Review financial statements prior to manager review and maintain documentation.
Prepare payrolls, payroll taxes, and related deposts and reports.
Assist clients with payroll items, tax notices, and month-end processing.
Support tax-season data gathering and final returns preparation.
Mentor and train new team members and help develop departmental best practices.

Job description

As a Senior Accounting Specialist on Savant’s Accounting & Business Advisory (SABA) team, you will manage essential monthly accounting and payroll services, help clients navigate questions with confidence, and strengthen team practices through mentorship and collaboration. This is an opportunity to apply your experience across a varied client base while contributing to a growing, integrated financial services firm.

In this role, you can expect to focus in the following areas:

Monthly accounting: Prepare bank reconciliations, journal entries, financial statements, sales tax returns, client bill payments, and bookkeeping for tax clients using QuickBooks Online and other accounting software.
Quality and client service: Review monthly financial statements before manager review, maintain accounting documentation and client logs, gather missing information, and communicate questions and concerns clearly with clients and management.
Payroll processing and compliance: Prepare client payrolls, annual reports, payroll tax returns, state and federal tax deposits, Workers’ Compensation audits, direct deposit files, W-2 adjustments, and related support documentation.
Payroll guidance and issue resolution: Help clients correctly treat pay items and deductions, research payroll tax notices, support monthly statement processing, and complete remote deposits and accounts receivable postings.
Tax-season support: Maintain tax-return tracking with close attention to outstanding items, due dates, and required data; assist with gathering and scanning tax information; and help prepare final returns for client delivery.
Team leadership: Mentor and train new team members, serve as a role model to accounting and payroll colleagues, help develop departmental best practices, and step in to support the team as needed.

A couple things to note about our Senior Accounting Specialist, Accounting & Business Advisory position:

This position will be based out of our St. Charles, IL office location.
This is an in-person hourly position.
This role requires the flexibility to work additional hours during tax season and, when needed, to provide coverage for other team members.
Success in this position requires effectively prioritizing a high volume of accounting and payroll work while consistently meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy.

Qualifications

The Senior Accounting Specialist, Accounting & Business Advisory position typically requires the following qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
Five or more years of demonstrated success in an accounting role providing write-up and bookkeeping services.
Proven understanding of accounting principles and practices, with the ability to review work accurately and identify practical solutions.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, industry-related systems, and proprietary software; experience with the Thomson Reuters software suite is preferred.
Ability to manage a large client volume while remaining organized, efficient, detail-oriented, and professional.
Excellent written and verbal communication, active listening, follow-through, and a client-first mindset.
A collaborative, adaptable, and proactive approach, with the judgment to remain calm under pressure and uphold high standards of integrity.

Our Total Rewards

At Savant, we invest in our people - supporting both their well-being and long-term growth. We take a market-based approach to compensation. The expected base salary range for this role is $27.00 - $42.00 per hour. Actual compensation is determined on an individual basis and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications, geographic location, and market conditions. This role may also be eligible for additional incentive compensation based on responsibilities and performance.
