Job summary

BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. in San Rafael, CA, seeks a seasoned Controllership professional to support corporate accounting activities and cross-functional initiatives. You will own accounting processes, drive improvements, and ensure robust controls across the organization.

You will work with leaders across Corporate functions, assist with audits and SEC filings, and lead process automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy. A hybrid on-site schedule is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent.
  • CPA or equivalent experience preferred.
  • SAP or large ERP experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, mix of public accounting and industry.
  • US GAAP knowledge, including prepaids, accruals, and allocations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with guiding/advising capacity.
  • Detail-oriented with a mindset for process improvements and automation.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities across accounting areas.

Responsibilities

  • Own and support accounting activities and projects across the Controllership organization.
  • Prepare journal entries in compliance with US GAAP.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for G&A prepaids, accruals, and intercompany accounts.
  • Guide junior staff accountants in month-end deliverables.
  • Partner with Corporate leaders to ensure appropriate accounting treatment under US GAAP.
  • Assist with audits and SOX controls, including work papers.
  • Compile supporting schedules for quarterly and annual SEC filings and respond to questions from the reporting team.
  • Identify process improvements through automation and AI-enabled solutions and other tooling.
  • Support special projects within U.S. Controllership.

SUMMARY

This role within U.S. Controllership will be responsible forsupporting accounting activities and initiatives for the Corporate functions, as well as activities that span the broader Controllership organization.The position will serve as a key resource in driving operational excellence through ownership ofCorporate accounting activities, cross-functional initiativesand otherstrategicpriorities, partneringacross the organization tohelp ensure accounting processes, controls, and reporting requirements remain effective. In addition, the role will also support broader U.S. Controllership objectives through process improvement initiatives, operational enhancements, and other strategic projects that improve theevolutionand scalability of the accounting function.

RESPONSIBILTIES
  • - Own and support accounting activities and projects that span multiple functions across the Controllership organization, providing flexible support for evolving business priorities and organizational needs
  • - Compile and analyze information to prepare journal entries in compliance with US GAAP
  • - Perform monthly reconciliations on various G&A prepaids, accruals, and intercompany accounts
  • - Provide guidance to junior staff accountants in the preparation and review of journal entries and other month-end deliverables
  • -Partner closely with leaders across Corporate functions to support key business initiatives, evaluate transactions, and ensure appropriate accounting treatment in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • - Assist with audits, including preparing work papers for the auditors and maintain evidence of SOX controls compliance
  • - Compile supporting schedules for quarterly and annual SEC filings and answer questions as needed from the reporting team
  • - Identify and implement process improvements through automation, reporting enhancements, AI-enabled solutions, and other technology tools to improve efficiency and strengthen controls
  • - Support special projects and contribute to evolving U.S. Controllership priorities
DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • - Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance
  • - CPA or equivalent experience preferred
  • - SAP or large ERP experience preferred
  • - 5+ years of relevant experience, with a mix of public accounting and industry preferred
  • - Knowledgeable about US GAAP accounting concepts, including prepaids, accruals, and allocations.
  • - Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • - Proven experience working in a team, especially in a guiding and advising capacity
  • - Detailed and analytical person who enjoys solving problems and learning new areas,with a mindset for process improvements and automation
  • - Ability to manage changing priorities and support multiple accounting areas
WORKSTYLE

This role is hybrid requiring an onsite presence in San Rafael twice per week. The role may not be performed remotely.
