Job summary

CLA is seeking a Senior Accountant with state and local government experience to join our Client Accounting and Advisory Service (CAAS). This role handles reconciliations, month-end close support, and financial statement drafting.

The candidate will oversee CAAS staff and interact with clients and engagement teams to provide GAAP guidance and recommendations. A Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant accounting experience are required.

Qualifications

• 4 years of accounting and/or financial experience required.
• Relevant work experience within state & local government is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Client Service: Develops an understanding of each client’s business/organization operations. Manages multiple clients, software, and chart of accounts on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
• Day to Day Transactions: Leads coordination and processing of accounts payable, cash disbursements, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and payroll.
• Month End Processing: Coordinates and completes account reconciliations (prepaids, A/R, fixed assets, A/P, accruals). Prepares, reviews, and understands financial statements; builds backup procedures.
• Other Quarterly/Annual Processing: Completes sales tax returns and Form 1099s and prepares audit workpapers and tax workpapers for clients.
• Special Projects: Assists with internal audit, due diligence, system selection, and other consultative projects.
