Job summary

UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement in Evanston, IL seeks a Senior Accountant to handle journal entries, reconciliations, and project accounting. You will support capitalization, analyze variances, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting.

The role requires solid accounting knowledge, experience with nonprofit or project accounting, and the ability to develop documentation and assist with audits.

Qualifications

• Advanced Excel skills including VLOOKUP and pivot tables.
• Understanding of nonprofit accounting standards.
• Experience with general accounting procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical skills to identify discrepancies and root causes.
• Detail-oriented with ability to produce audit-ready work papers.

Responsibilities

• Record journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
• Monitor work-in-progress, follow up on items and coordinate capitalization.
• Prepare journal entries and reconciliations for project, labor, and capital asset activity.
• Analyze budget-to-actual variances and investigate fluctuations.
• Support capitalization decisions and cost classifications for projects.
• Gather support for internal and external audit requests.
• Generate ad-hoc reports, analyses, and reconciliations as needed.
