National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking an Accountant - Payroll to join our on-site accounting team in West Chester, OH. The role focuses on accurate payroll processing, multi-state compliance, and timely financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in accounting, a minimum of three years' payroll experience, and strong Excel and accounting software skills. This exempt, full-time position offers a negotiable salary based on experience.

Responsibilities

• Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll.
• Maintain payroll records and ensure data accuracy.
• Ensure conformity to GAAP, local/state/federal guidelines.
• Calculate wages, overtime, and deductions across states.
• Enforce internal controls and procedures; support audits.
• Reconcile monthly accounts and assist with financial reports.
• Process multi-state payroll for 200+ employees and payroll tax returns.

Required Education:

Job Requirements:

• Experience with hands on processing of payroll.
• Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and understanding of GAAP.
• Experience with processing payroll in multiple states.

• High level of accuracy and attention to detail required; well organized.

• Advanced computer skills in Accounting Software, Excel, and other Microsoft Office products.

• Assisting with payroll, including monitoring and reviewing employee timesheets for accuracy and completeness.

Job Duties:

• Process weekly and/or bi-weekly payroll.
• Maintain payroll records and ensure accuracy of employee data.
• Responsible for conformity to all regulatory GAAP, FASB, local, state, and federal guidelines.
• Accurately calculate wages, overtime, and deductions in multiple states.
• Enforce internal business controls, policies, and procedures.
• Work on special projects as required.
• Ensure the accuracy of the accounting records through well prepared monthly reconciliations and detailed analysis.
• Assist with financial audits and tax returns.
• Reconcile accrued expenses and bank statements.
• Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.
• Process Multi-State Payroll for 200+ employees.
• Process Multi-State Payroll tax returns.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an office setting. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with flexibility to meet tight deadlines.
