Job summary

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) seeks a Senior Accountant in Washington, DC, to manage general ledger accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting for AIA and its entities. This role supports audits, grants, and compliance.

Reporting to Assistant Controller, you will handle fund accounting, intercompany activity, and investment accounting, while maintaining internal controls and GAAP adherence in a hybrid work environment near the DC metro area.

Qualifications

• Proficient knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
• Demonstrated experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
• Nonprofit grant and contribution accounting under ASU 2018-08.
• Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong Excel and financial systems skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage general ledger accounting, monthly close, and financial reporting for assigned entities.
• Prepare schedules for annual financial statement audits and external reporting.
• Support Form 990 and other financial compliance activities.
• Maintain fund activity for restricted and unrestricted funds.
• Record and reconcile investment activity and revenue recognition.
