Job summary

Pacific Life Insurance Company is seeking a Senior Accountant I to join the real estate accounting and reporting team in Newport Beach, CA. You will record financial statement activity, cash activity, and adjustments for real estate investments, while coordinating with property managers and stakeholders to ensure accurate monthly close.

The role emphasizes oversight of operational tasks, month-end close, reconciliations, KPI validation, and support for acquisitions/dispositions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities under tight deadlines.
  • CPA candidacy or licensure is preferred; public accounting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Record month-end and quarter-end entries as part of the financial close process.
  • Prepare month-end and quarter-end reconciliations and support schedules.
  • Review property manager financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
  • Upload and validate KPIs and non-financial information for real estate properties.
  • Assist with real estate acquisitions/dispositions and closing entries.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs to promote consistency and efficiency.
  • Support periodic reporting for real estate investments and audits.

It’s a career where you have the support, balance, and resources to make a positive impact on the future – including your own.We’re actively seeking a talented Senior Accountant I to join our real estate accounting and reporting team in Newport Beach, CA.As a Senior Accountant I, you’ll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by recording financial statement activity, cash activity, and adjustments for our real estate investment properties.How you’ll help move us forward:Operational Responsibilities:Indirectly oversee staff to ensure operational tasks are done accurately, timely, and that issues are appropriately identified, escalated, and resolved, including:Cash activityInvestment acquisitions/dispositionsAccounting and Reporting Responsibilities:Record month-end and quarter-end entries as part of the financial close processPrepare month-end and quarter-end reconciliations as part of the financial close processUpload and validate property manager trial balances for the monthly financial close processReview property manager financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness, including monitoring cash, equity, debt, and fixed asset accounts, to ensure the integrity of monthly financial statement packagesUpload and validate monthly non-financial information (KPIs) for real estate propertiesCommunicate with property managers to resolve accounting questions, variances, and outstanding itemsPrepare the monthly Book Value and Cost Analysis reportPrepare quarterly reports and supporting schedulesPerform a comprehensive quarterly review of property manager financial packages to ensure all requested deliverables are completed and properly supportedAssist with the accounting and execution of real estate investment property acquisitions and dispositions, including the preparation of closing entries and coordination with Asset Management, property management, and other stakeholdersMaintain checklists to enhance workflow visibility and ensure information accuracyAssist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of the accounting group's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to promote consistency, efficiency, and adherence to best practicesMonitor shared mailboxes and process daily cash activity in Yardi and/or PeopleSoft, including capital calls and distributionsAssist in the preparation of periodic reporting for real estate investmentsAssist with the preparation of various annual audit deliverablesPerform special projects and ad hoc analyses as assignedOrganize, prioritize, and respond to multiple requests within established deadlinesInnovation Responsibilities:Be supportive of company-wide, departmental, and team strategic initiativesContinue to assess areas for continuous improvement as items are identified on a real-time basis, make suggestions, as well as seek feedback from team membersThe experience you bring:5+ years of experience in a relevant field4-year accounting degree or equivalent experienceProficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.Ability to manage multiple responsibilities under tight time framesStrong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication skills both oral and writtenStrong organizational skills with the ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environmentDemonstrated accountability, customer focus, collaboration, and teamworkComfortable collaborating with individuals at all levels of the organizationA desire to mentor colleagues with less experienceWhat makes you stand out:Real estate investment experienceExperience or certification with PeopleSoft, Oracle, Essbase, ARCs, or YardiCPA candidacy or licensurePublic accounting experienceYou can be who you are.People come first here.
