Job summary

City of Cupertino is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Finance Department. This advanced accounting role handles governmental accounting, financial reports, audits, and budget maintenance, with supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Finance Manager.

The successful candidate will provide technical guidance, lead process improvements, and support external audits. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, 4 years of progressive accounting

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Four years of progressive accounting experience.
• Supervisory experience is desirable.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain ledgers and other financial documents in compliance with regulations.
• Supervise and evaluate the work of subordinate accounting staff.
• Assist in preparing the City’s annual budget.
• Prepare and submit internal and external financial reports and statements.
• Conduct comprehensive financial analyses and projections.
• Assist in Audit Committee reporting and presentations.
• Prepare journal entries and review audit entries for accuracy.
• Interpret and implement financial policies and regulations.
• Provide technical accounting guidance to Finance staff.
• Oversee payments to paying agents for City bonds.
• Serve as liaison with external auditors.
• Support audit processes with documentation and inquiries.
• Recommend improvements to financial systems, policies, and procedures.
• Prepare materials for City Council presentations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
