Job summary

Pilot seeks a Senior Accountant to join the growing Accounting team in San Francisco. You will own monthly close, financial reporting, equity accounting, and assist with audits. This role emphasizes automation and scalable processes, with a clear path toward management leadership.

Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, you will collaborate across finance, HR, Legal, and IT to improve controls and efficiency while advancing toward an Accounting Manager role in a few years.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred or CPA candidacy considered.
  • 4-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with a high growth technology-based SaaS company.
  • 2-4 years of Big Four public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience supporting annual external audits.
  • Experience preparing audited financial statements and footnotes.
  • Technical accounting research and memo preparation.
  • Experience with equity accounting and stock-based compensation (ASC 718).
  • Experience maintaining equity records using Carta.
  • Experience with Capitalized Internal-Use Software (ASC 350-40).
  • Experience with Lease Accounting (ASC 842).
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online.
  • Experience with FloQast or BlackLine.
  • Advanced Excel Skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications: NetSuite ERP experience; ERP transformation exposure; ASC 606; IPO readiness or SOX.

Responsibilities

  • Close monthly books: journal entries, accruals, reclasses, balance sheet ownership, and reconcile analyses.
  • Equity accounting: stock options, ASC 718, equity records with Carta, annual audit support.
  • Audit & compliance: liaison with external auditors, audit schedules, control documentation.
  • Process improvement: automate manual processes, ERP enhancements, system optimization.
  • Cross-functional partnership: support Revenue, Payroll, AP/AR, FP&A, HR, Legal, IT; due diligence support.

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our growing Accounting team. Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, this individual will play a critical role in the monthly close process, financial reporting, annual audit, equity accounting, and continuous process improvement

.
The ideal candidate combines a strong technical accounting foundation with a passion for automation, operational excellence, and scalable processes. This role is defined for a high-performing accounting professional who is ready to develop into an Accounting Manager within the next few year

What You'l
l Do
General Ledger & Month-End
  • Close
    Prepare and review monthly journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and recurring en
    tries.Own assigned balance sheet accounts, ensuring reconciliations are completed timely and accur ately.Perform monthly balance sheet and income statement flux analyses and investigate significant vari ances.Own assigned areas of the GL, including fixed assets, prepaids, leases, accruals, intercompany activity, and other complex accounting areas.Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and Company accounting pol icies.Own assigned components of monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities while consistently meeting close dead lines.
  • Equity Accounting
    Own the Company’s equity roll-forward sc
    hedules.Prepare accounting for stock options and other equity trans actions.Prepare monthly stock-based compensation accounting under ASC 718.Partner with Legal, HR, equity administrator and Carta to ensure complete and accurate equity accounting records.Coordinate annual audit r Reporting
    Prepare the Company’s annual draft audited financial statements, including all required footnotes and supporting disclosures for manageme nt review.Prepare supporting schedules for monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.Assist with the implementation of new accounting standards.Research technical accounting matters and document accounting co nclusions.Maintain accounting policies and technical accounting docu ations.

    Serve as primary contact for external auditors within ass igned areas.Prepare complete, accurate, and well-organized audi &t schedules.Respond timely to audit or requests.Assist with internal control documentation and audi
applicable.

The base pay range target for the role seniority described in this job description is $131,000 - $156,000 in San Francisco, CA. Final offer amounts depend on multiple factors such as candidate experience and expertise, geographic location, total compensation, and market data. In addition to cash pay, full-time regular positions are eligible for equity, 401(k), health benefits, and other benefits; some of these benefits may be available for part-ti me or temporary positions.
