Job summary

The Charlottesville Department of Social Services is seeking a Senior Accountant to perform advanced financial accounting activities including analysis, reconciliation, and reporting for the City of Charlottesville. This exempt, full-time role reports to the DSS Deputy Director of Administration and supports timely, accurate financial operations.

Responsibilities include budgeting, GAAP compliance, audit support, and coordination with external regulators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with substantial accounting experience.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Experience with SAP or similar ERP system.

Responsibilities

• Reconciles funds and accounts; researches discrepancies and reports findings.
• Monitors budgets and projections; assists in budgeting and financial planning.
• Acts as liaison to other departments and entities to resolve accounting issues.
• Adheres to GASB and other GAAP standards; recommends policy updates as needed.
• Prepares and reviews financial statements and schedules for agencies.
