Plaid Inc. is seeking a Senior Accountant for IPO readiness & SOX Growth within Accounting Operations.
The role centers on accruals, investments, leases, intercompany activity, and cost allocations, with journal entries, reconciliations, and close management until year-end. You will partner with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Marketing and external auditors, building scalable processes and controls to support Plaid's growth and public readiness.
This Senior Accountant / Accounting Operations role at Plaid sits at a compelling intersection of high-growth fintech and IPO readiness. Plaid has been on an IPO trajectory, and this role explicitly mentions SOX 404 readiness and public company experience — making it a strong career accelerator for accountants targeting the CFO/Controller path.
Compensation context: No salary range is listed, which is a yellow flag for transparency. Senior accountants with 6+ years and Big 4 background in San Francisco typically earn $120,000–$165,000 base, with equity being a meaningful differentiator at a late-stage startup. Plaid's equity component could add significant value if an IPO occurs.
Green flags: Clear ownership of key areas, cross-functional exposure (FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Legal), and a mandate to build scalable processes — this is not a passive "maintain the status quo" role. The mention of expanding responsibilities signals genuine growth potential.
Watch for: Close cycles at pre-IPO companies can be demanding with tight deadlines. The broad scope (accruals, investments, leases, intercompany, cost allocations) for a single contributor suggests lean staffing — be sure to ask about team size and bandwidth in interviews.

Role Overview
You will be a key contributor to Accounting Operations and own the accounting for accruals, investments, leases, intercompany activity, and cost allocations. This includes preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciling accounts, analyzing balances and trends, and ensuring these areas are complete and accurate each month, quarter, and year-end. You will be the point of contact for your areas during the close and the annual audit. Over time, your responsibilities may expand into other areas of the close as the business and team grow.
You will also help build scalable, efficient processes that support Plaid's growth and public readiness. This includes documenting and strengthening controls in your areas, shortening the close, improving the quality and consistency of supporting documentation, and identifying opportunities to automate manual work. You will partner with the broader Accounting team, FP&A, Strategic Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Marketing, and external auditors along the way.
