Role Description

The Senior Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Princeton, NJ, responsible for managing and overseeing key accounting and financial reporting functions. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciling accounts, monitoring budget activity, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. The role also involves maintaining compliance with relevant accounting standards and institutional policies, supporting audits, and assisting with the development and improvement of financial processes and internal controls. The Senior Accountant will collaborate with colleagues across departments to provide financial analysis, respond to information requests, and help guide sound fiscal decision-making that aligns with the Seminary's mission.

Qualifications
  • Strong general accounting skills, including experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting and analysis, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting processes, including monitoring departmental expenses and supporting budget planning.
  • Knowledge of internal controls, audit preparation, and compliance with GAAP or comparable accounting standards.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting and ERP software, as well as Microsoft Excel and other productivity tools.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification and experience in higher education or non-profit accounting are beneficial.
