The City of Ocala seeks a skilled accounting professional to manage financial accounting and reporting. You will work under the Fiscal Operations Supervisor to ensure accurate monthly closes, robust reporting, and compliance with GASB standards.
Responsibilities include journal entries, reconciliations, year-end activity, and support for audits. Strong computer skills and experience in government accounting are essential; CPA or CGFO/CPFO preferred.
This is a responsible, technical, and professional position with responsibilities relating to the overall administration of the financial accounting and reporting functions of the City. This position works closely with and reports to the Fiscal Operations Supervisor.

Ability to read, analyze, and understand common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; Ability to respond to complex or difficult inquiries or complaints.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Under GENERAL SUPERVISON where standard practice enables the employee to PROCEED ALONE on routine work, referring all questionable cases to supervisor.
CLOSE; Operations requiring close and continuous attention for control of operations. Operations requiring intermittent direct thinking to determine or select the most applicable way of handling situations regarding the organization’s operations.
Regular use of highly complex machines and equipment; specialized or advanced software programs.
Probable errors of internal scope should ordinarily be detected within the department or office in which they occur, but may affect the work of others within the unit, requiring additional expenditure of time to trace errors and make corrections.
Occasional routine contacts with persons outside the organization. This would include contacts with suppliers, mail service, etc.
Contact with other departments or offices and also frequently with individuals in middle level positions; consulting on problems that necessitate judgment and tact, plus frequent contact with senior level internal officials.
Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, including governmental and proprietary accounting and budgeting and their application to the operation of municipal affairs. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations. Ability to research, compile, and analyze data and prepare complex financial reports and statements. Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting, purchasing, budgeting, statistical analysis, and report writing. Ability to utilize computers and various software applications for analytical and data maintenance purposes. Ability to carry out complex oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
