Job summary

RubinBrown LLP in Kansas City seeks a Senior Accountant to join the Internal Accounting team and drive revenue recognition, financial reporting, reconciliations, and related close activities. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and at least 4 years in revenue or general accounting, preferably in a Professional Services firm.

This hybrid position supports cross-functional collaboration and professional growth within the firm.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of experience in revenue accounting or general accounting required.
  • Experience working for a Professional Services organization preferred.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and reconciliations.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy; ability to manage deadlines and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP applications.

Responsibilities

  • Manage revenue recognition for client engagements (fixed fee, time-and-materials, retainer, AUM).
  • Collaborate with client service teams to ensure accurate billing and revenue recording.
  • Track and manage earn-out and contingent consideration related to acquisitions.
  • Reconcile investment advisory fees and validate AUM-related revenue calculations.
  • Prepare monthly revenue journal entries and related reconciliations.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts (WIP, time and expense, A/R).
  • Prepare and analyze revenue reports; identify trends and variances for management.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records per GAAP and internal standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and workflows.
  • Support additional accounting and finance functions as needed.

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Internal Accounting team and play a key role in revenue recognition, financial reporting, reconciliations, and acquisition-related accounting. You'll tackle complex accounting initiatives, partner with teams across the firm, and make an impact in a growing professional services environment.

Major Responsibilities
  • Manage revenue recognition for client engagements, including fixed fee, time-and-materials, retainer, and assets under management (AUM) arrangements.
  • Partner with client service teams to ensure accurate and timely billing and revenue recording.
  • Track and manage earn-out and contingent consideration payments related to mergers and acquisitions.
  • Reconcile investment advisory fees and validate AUM-related revenue calculations.
  • Prepare monthly revenue journal entries and related account reconciliations.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including work-in-progress, time and expense, and accounts receivable.
  • Prepare and analyze revenue reports, identifying trends and variances for management.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with accounting principles and internal standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and workflows.
  • Support additional accounting and finance functions as needed.
Preferred Experience / Background / Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • At least 4-years of experience in revenue accounting or general accounting required.
  • Experience working for a Professional Services organization.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and reconciliations.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP applications.
