Role Description

Fidelio Dental Insurance is seeking a Senior Accountant for a full-time, on-site position based in Glenside, Pennsylvania. This is a senior-level leadership role responsible for owning and driving the accounting and financial reporting function of the organization. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, solves problems, and ensures critical financial and regulatory responsibilities are completed accurately and on time. This is not a support role; this individual will be expected to lead, execute, and ensure accountability across key accounting and reporting functions.

The Senior Accountant will oversee the general ledger, prepare and review journal entries, manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, and ensure financial reporting accuracy in accordance with GAAP and statutory accounting requirements. This role will also play a critical part in insurance regulatory reporting, statutory filings, premium tax filings, capital analysis, and coordination with auditors and regulators.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain the general ledger, including preparation and review of journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses in accordance with GAAP and internal policies.
  • Monitor cash activity and support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
  • Prepare and file statutory financial statements in accordance with National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) guidelines, including quarterly and annual blanks.
  • Calculate and support Risk-Based Capital (RBC) ratios, ensuring compliance with minimum capital requirements and documenting key assumptions.
  • Maintain and reconcile statutory accounting records, including premium, claims, and reserve balances.
  • Analyze surplus and capital position, identifying trends or risks that could impact RBC levels or regulatory standing.
  • Support actuarial and claims teams by validating data used in reserve calculations and ensuring alignment with statutory reporting.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and state regulators during audits and financial examinations, providing documentation and support for NAIC filings.
  • Prepare and file premium tax filings and state-specific regulatory reports, ensuring accurate allocation of premiums by state and compliance with jurisdictional requirements.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of internal controls, accounting procedures, and process improvements.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, preferably within the insurance, healthcare, or financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Strong skills in financial reporting, variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems, along with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Solid knowledge of US GAAP, statutory accounting principles (SAP), NAIC reporting requirements, internal controls, and audit support practices.
  • Experience preparing insurance statutory filings, premium tax filings, and regulatory reporting is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of Risk-Based Capital (RBC) calculations and insurance financial solvency requirements preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
  • Proven ability to interpret financial data, solve problems, and implement process improvements.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership mindset with the ability to take ownership, drive execution, and ensure accountability.
  • Clear and professional communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and present financial information effectively.
  • Ability to work on-site in Glenside, PA, while maintaining confidentiality and compliance standards.
